HOW IT ALL STARTED
History of ODPhi expansion at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois started in the spring of 1996. Four friends, Alejandro Anaya, Jose Luz Frausto, Eduardo Encinas, and Alejandro Jovel had already been discussing the possibility of starting up a new fraternity on campus. Sunny Reyna, who was younger than all of them, was approached by the group about what they were trying to accomplish. He then took some time to make his decision. But once classes resumed from spring break, he agreed to join the group so long as they were all very dedicated to the cause and promised to match that same dedication. The group of young men had been doing some research on fraternal organizations and ended up narrowing it down to three, one of which was Omega Delta Phi. All three organizations presented to the young men. They followed up the presentations by doing further research and validating information presented to them, especially the academic standards and academic performance part, with connections they had on other campuses. That in itself knocked the other two organizations out of the picture, for there was something different about the presentation of Omega Delta Phi. Brother Alex Mada delivered the presentation on behalf of ODPhi. It was passionate. It was heartfelt. And he sold them on the brotherhood and the chance to be pioneers in the ODPhi movement into the Midwest. “It was a heartfelt speech instead of just information, and he sold me on the brotherhood,” said AA founder, Sunny Reyna. Soon after Alex’s presentation, they chose to move forward with ODPhi. The spring 1997 semester was where a lot of the legwork took place in getting to the next level: club status. The five men accomplished just that on November 25th, 1997. But work was not done yet. The following semester proved to be a busy one. Omicron founder, Antonio Flores, was overseeing their intake and he taught them a lot. Flores also prepared them for a major presentation the Northwestern University club had in Tucson, Arizona in April of 1998.
Alpha Alpha Chapter is an exemplary chapter of what ODPhi is. Their member retention rate is great. They are professional and stand-up gentlemen. And given the NU is a very demanding institution, with regards to academic performance, the chapter and individual GPA’s are amazing. “Last time I checked, we had a 100% graduation rate at Alpha Alpha. That is what should be our main focus nationally. And if we are not graduating our members, then we are failing somewhere,” stated Reyna. With 65 brothers crossed to date, we are excited to see Alpha Alpha continue to set the standard and lead by example.

Once a Knight, always a Knight. Although our brotherhood has been active on the Northwestern Campus for only 20 years, it is one of the strongest and fastest growing brotherhoods of them all. Undergraduate members have developed strong relationships with older alumni, which is why our bond remains strong. Not only are we also a networking system, more importantly, we are a family.

The Knights of Omega Delta Phi are instilled with the ideal that they can change the world through hard work. Omega Delta Phi has a strong, rich tradition of service to our communities. We strive to excel in every field of human endeavor, setting the example and creating new standards for our fellow students. While most fraternities claim to be service oriented, it’s a way of life for an ODPhi Knight. Learn about our signature service events under the "Events" tab.

Not only do the brothers work hard, but we play hard as well. Many of our brothers participate in Stroll Competitions, Athletic events/activities, and fun get-togethers with alumni and brothers from other chapters.

The brothers of the Alpha Alpha Chapter of ODPhi maintain strong relationships with many other greek organizations from the Multicultural Greek Council, National Pan-Hellenic Council, and IFC/PHA. We often co-sponsor events or have fun socials together.

For 20 years, Omega Delta Phi at Northwestern University has striven to promote its values. From cultural events, to our community service work, to our annual Silver Rose Banquet and César Chávez Day of Service, we work to make a positive impact at NU and Chicago-area communities.
